Best Therapy Strategies for You
Your concerns, values, and goals are carefully considered. A plan is customized for you and updated as sessions proceed. Guided by evidence-based research, my expertise, and your input, I combine the best parts of a number of effective therapies or approaches:
Cognitive-Behavioral Therapies (CBT): Focus on how thoughts, feelings, reactions, and judgments interact to fuel anxiety, depression, and poor choices.
Mindfulness Practices: Involve noticing/observing thoughts, feelings, and bodily sensations in the present moment without judgments.
Acceptance & Commitment Therapy (ACT): Offers a newer generation CBT approach including mindfulness practices and your values to bring change.
Exposure & Response Prevention (ERP): Overcomes rituals and avoidance using a specialized form of CBT which is highly effective in OCD treatment.
Positive Psychology: Develops strengths to thrive and flourish as self and in organizations and community to overcome constraints.
Solution Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT): Improves symptoms with quick, practical, strategic changes.
Along the way, I help you become aware of how old thought patterns trigger automatic negative emotions and prolong suffering. In therapy, identifying patterns of negativity can significantly change how you relate to your problems, choices, and reactions.
For some, the goal of therapy is to develop strategies to better cope with petty annoyances as well as big problems. Only if new tools (for coping and relieving stress) are practiced and become habits do they endure. The great news is that new healthier habits once in place are as hard to break as old bad habits!

Collaborating & Networking in our Community
- I do not prescribe medication. If interested, you are referred to your medical provider. Combining psychotherapy with medication is helpful for some.
- ONLY with your written permission and request do I contact your medical provider or any other person for follow-up.
- In addition to ongoing therapy, referral to other health or healing arts practitioners (biofeedback, nutrition, acupuncture, yoga, etc.) may be advised to further enhance self-care, mind-body awareness, and coping.
- My extensive contacts (specialists, classes, support groups) are available to you as resources to reinforce changes made in therapy. Your ability to create and maintain your own wellness network will help assure lasting healthier habits.
Service Availability Between Sessions
There may be times when I am out of town and/or not available by phone. In case of an emergency or if needs become pressing, I recommend clients seek care directly from an emergency room, your primary care provider, or your prescribing psychiatrist.
For those requiring more back-up support, these matters are discussed during our initial phone consult. In some cases, it may be appropriate to refer to other practices with more comprehensive on call coverage and follow up.
Please let me know if you have any concerns about whether my practice is a “good fit” for you.
