CHRONIC ILLNESS & COPING

Finding support and hope…

Living with chronic illness such as Lyme, Diabetes, MS, or Fibromyalgia can trigger a roller coaster of emotions. Illness and its effects may fuel a growing sense of loneliness and isolation. Endless doctor visits, growing worries, and depression can dial up pain (Cleveland Clinic, 2018). Partnering with a psychologist can often help.

  • What I offer is a safe, comforting environment to explore and consider needs, problems, goals, and beliefs about your illness and life. Initially this might mean airing concerns about losses, fears, anger, or whatever is on your mind.
  • We also consider your support systems, medical and non-medical, including physical therapy, massage, biofeedback, acupuncture, or support groups to determine if changes or additions may be beneficial.
  • We identify the stories you tell yourself about your illness and evaluate the ones serving you well and ones that fuel misery.
  • Regarding Lyme/Borrelia and Co-Infections: I am Lyme literate and have experience with these complicated issues. While not diagnosed with chronic Lyme myself, I have worked with a number of clients with this disease. Treatment challenges may include: controversies about how to treat Lyme, its co-infections, and massive changes in quality of life. Openness to new ways of soothing a sore mind-body often brings hope and progress.

For all those with Chronic Illnesses:

There are techniques and practices such as gentler self talk, qigong, tai chi, chair yoga, or mindfulness that can be learned to nurture the nervous system and promote healing.

If you are interested in pursuing how I might help you with chronic issues of any kind, please call and let’s talk.

The thought of changing lifelong beliefs/habits in the face of chronic illness can seem overwhelming and impossible. I teach simple, powerful tools that can be used wherever you are to help ease anxiety and negativity.

“Each day relaxing tight muscles as well as slowly counting my breath in and out really help. I feel better.”
